How can I maximize my portfolio? All eggs in one basket?

I currently own a few stocks with a few shares but am also looking for ways to build a stronger portfolio. Would it be a smart move to diversify my purchasing with short term bonds and ETFs as well? I am looking at the big picture (or the long run) with consistent performance. Thank you.
