How do I become wealthy while keeping my day job until I am able to quit?

I know it is very possible to obtain wealth while still working for someone else, temporarily. Unfortunetily for me I do not have the answer. Does anyone have real answers to this question? I know that the rich teach their kids to strive for assets that work to make money rather than striving to go to work for someone else, only to make them rich.
